Saturday October 10, 2026: Victory went to Agordino (JPN) in the 2026 Saudi Royal Cup today in a race attended by the Jockey Club of Arabia’s CEO, HRH Prince Salman bin Abdullah bin Salman bin Mohammed.

The contest, open to two-year-old colts and held over 1600m was also attended by His Excellency Dr Ghazi bin Zagr, Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Japan; and Mr Masayoshi Yoshida, President of the Japan Racing Association (JRA), alongside distinguished guests and representatives of the horseracing industry.

HRH Prince Salman bin Abdullah presented the trophy to representatives of winning connections, Dearest Club Co Ltd, while the Saudi Ambassador honoured trainer Eiji Nakadate and jockey Kazuo Yokoyama.

HRH Prince Salman bin Abdullah welcomed the opportunity to attend the Saudi Royal Cup and present the trophy, highlighting the race’s longstanding place in the Japanese racing calendar and the continued and developing relationship between the racing authorities of Saudi Arabia and Japan.

His Royal Highness said:

“I was delighted to attend the Saudi Royal Cup today and present the trophies to the winners. This long-established sporting occasion continues to fulfil its objectives, strengthening cooperation and the strategic and historic bilateral ties between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Japan. It also provides a successful example of the exchange of expertise between our two countries in equestrian sport and horse racing.”

He added:

“I am also pleased to invite representatives from Japan and the Japan Racing Association to visit Riyadh on January 22 2027 to attend the Japan Cup at King Abdulaziz Racecourse. This will further strengthen the longstanding cooperation and exchange between our two countries in horseracing.”

The race has been contested under its current title, the Saudi Royal Cup, since 2015, although the name has a longer history in Japanese racing. Today, it remains a fixture on the Japanese racing calendar, reflecting the enduring relationship and continued cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Japan.
