Friday 21 February, 2025 – Saudi Arabian crowd favourite Scotland Yard (USA) was an effortless winner of Friday’s US$500k Tuwaiq Cup presented by LUCID under jockey Adel Alfouraidi.
The Prince Saud Bin Salman Abdulaziz-owned six-year-old has already competed in The Saudi Cup on two occasions and had been a reserve for this year’s renewal.
A winner of plenty of significant prizes around King Abdulaziz Racecourse, including two triumphs earlier this season, Scotland Yard was bouncing back from a 14th place in a tactical renewal of The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup.
He could be spotted as a big danger from some way out and Alfouraidi let him loose down the home straight and could enjoy passing the line five and a half lengths clear of Waqtuk (USA) and Mr Trinket (IRE) in a time of 1:52.756.
Quotes
Nicolas Bachalard, trainer, Scotland Yard, 1st: "It didn’t happen for him last time but he’s just a really good horse. He has issues with his feet but we were very happy going into the race.
"It’s a shame for His Highness that he didn’t get into The Saudi Cup. I believe he’s the best horse we have in Saudi Arabia."
